Väitteiltä siivet poikki - kaksi Espanjan kontaktiemme alkuperäisanalyysia!
31. toukokuuta 2009
DEPORTIVO BARCELONA
A respectable defensive performance from Deportivo in Sevilla. They seemed aware of their limitations. Hang on for a point and with a large slice of luck maybe even steal a goal. They never really came close to scoring, but frustrated Sevilla for 89 minutes. Not bad, but they simply didn't bring enough to the table so the defeat was deserved. Depor need to win and hope Valencia lose. Slim Eurofa hopes for D therefore, and who wants a 30 July start anyway? The home will try, but just for pride etc.
A young/reserve Barca XI seemed distracted and fragmented by the menacing, selfish presence of Eto'o in their ranks. What could have been a useful exercise in blooding new players and building confidence was turned into a botched attempt to fuel the Cameroonian forward's giant ego. I suppose, the thinking was to boost his confidence after the wretched Mallorca showing. It didn't work. He was truly shocking.
Osasuna had other priorities, scored from a corner, and rarely looked in trouble.
Baby cdef Muniesa was sent off within 25 minutes of coming on for his debut. An entirely reasonable and justifiable decision by the ref (a swining dog from Madrid, how dare he!!), but it sent the Chosen People into state of mass apoplexy. Rubinos Perez will be sleeping with the jellyfish for this one.
Bunch of sad runts, can't even celebrate the league title without playing the victim, reverting to rancorous anti-Madrid vitriol. Credit to Xavi, who came out and said “if we win something, I want to think about how hard we've worked, about how good we are, and enjoy that. I don't need to think about other people”.
Barcelona, for all their politically-correct Unicef posturing, retain a strictly provincial outlook, the Catalan nationalist (provincialiist) tendencies are so strong that the club barely acknowledges the hundreds of thousands of Barca fans throughout the rest of Spain, to the point of, especially under Laporta, almost resenting them.
And like any good, backward province, they especially resent the capital.
Regarding surprise-pick Muniesa, he is another of those long-awaited golden-boy prodigies, he even managed to jump the queue here with his promotion directly from the Youth to the 1st team, skipping the B side. But he got a little over-excited and tried to play the superhero.
Etoo, besides being awful, has given up on the Boot and will be away with Cameroon anyway.
The way he's going, the CL will be far too much for him. Barca topscorer, fine, but in this team I think even Goitom would have got 25.
Guardiola has called up all available players in a strong squad. But Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Etoo, Pique, Puyol, Henry, Toure etc etc (the entire 1st XI nearly) will all very likely miss out.
The purpose of the strong squad is merely to allow the team to have time together to celebrate their great season. This is easier to do away in Coruna, a nice seaside town with great food, than it has been in demented Barcelona in the last few days.
The XI below is very approximate. Xavi Torres, Alberto Botía, Jeffren, Abraham, gk Oier, all from thew B side, travel. Only Messi, Alves (intnl games, bad hangovers) and the injured Milito don't travel.
Etoo, surprisingly, has been named in the squad.
Muniesa is suspended of course, so there may be a chance for Barca B cdef Botia, who looks good.
Depor have slim chances of Uopa League and are obviously clever enough to know this. So, they can try, but the only concrete objective is likely to be a friendly scalp against a Barca mixed/B side.
I can only seriously consider the home, but in the circumstances, it doesn't look particularly interesting either.
Deportivo: Aranzubia; Manuel Pablo, Lopo, Zé Castro, Filipe Luis; Sergio, Juan Rodríguez; Lafita, Valerón, Guardado; Bodipo.
Barcelona: Pinto; Cáceres, Botía, Abidal, Sylvinho; Busquets/Torres; Keita/Thiago, Gudjohnsen; Pedro, Bojan, Hleb.
MALLORCA VILLARREAL
Mallorca themselves admitted it was hard to get going in the Bernabeu (Aduriz was moaning at half time about how he just couldn't get into the game, theres nothing at stake etc…). But by the end, former RM kid Jurado said “this was absolutely brilliant, I didn't want it to end, what an experience!”. He wasn't the only one.
With rback Scaloni and cmf Marti still out, it should be about the same XI as last week. Cdef Nunes is back in the squad but no idea if he starts.
Mallorca have meanwhile been shaken by the ongoing financial scandal over the whereabouts of a substantial amount of transfer fees. It seems a large portion of the “incoming” has disappeared, while a very significant amount of the “outgoing” has not yet been paid. Quite disturbing when one considers the amount of sales they have made over the last year. Aduriz for example, was signed for 6m Euros. So far, Mallorca have missed the 1st 2 payments of 1.75 m, and another 1.25m is due shortly. So, despite “receiving” transfer fees in multi-milions last summer, they haven't yet paid a penny for their main fwd, and are behind on 3.5m going on 4.75m. Just one example of several, by the way.
Villa confirmed their recent good form with another fine display to easily dispose of a ruined, broken Valencia side. Llorente, Cani, Pires are all in a very good moment, and Javi Venta destroyed Alexis at lback.
Villa need win and hope AM lose. Slim CL hopes therefore. Villa already in Eurofa, with 5th place assured (mercifully, a 20th August Eurofa round).
Rback Venta Reg/Impt is out here, a shame after his great display last week. In comes Angel, not at all bad but certainly less adventurous going forward.
Ibagaza Reg misses out but Bruno continues where he left off as sub last week.
Coach Pellegrini has trongly been linked with the RM job. Likewise, Mallorca coach Manzano is a strong favorite for the Villarreal job.
Villa need to win and hope. It seems likely that AM will do the business, therefore this may well be a friendly. In that case, Mallorca look reasonable value in what should be an entertaining, attacking game with plenty of goals.
I'm not sure the prospective coaches merry-go-round will influence things too much.
