Bulls -1.5

3-8 is not the start the Bulls wanted. Especially on the road, where they are 1-7. Tonight however we expect the Bulls to turn around their fortunes against the struggling Philadelphia 76ers.

Yes, the Bulls have won only 3 games so far but nevertheless they aren’t as bad as the stats shows. First of all they have had quite a difficult schedule against them as majority of the losses have been to winning teams and on the road. Secondly, this team played one of its best away games of the season on Tuesday against the Nuggets. They lost the fight at the end (109-113) but it truly was the first road game where the Bulls had some life in their offense. The Bulls got 22 points from Luol Deng and 11 fourth-quarter points from Hinrich. Ben Gordon scored 10 in the fourth quarter and ended with 19, and Ben Wallace had 11 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks.

Philadelphia (4-7) has lost four straight and seven of eight since opening the season with three consecutive wins. So yes they have fallen into the deep hole ... playing without Allen Iverson in the last two losses and without Chris Webber in the last three. The way Webber has played, they don’t miss him. Iverson at the same time is desperately needed on court for 40 minutes to turn this loosing routine around. The status of Iverson for this game remains unclear but even if he plays it might take him some time to attain his full effectiveness. Also the 76ers youngsters haven’t showed much desired improvement from last year (except Willie Green, who has done a solid job subbing for Iverson with 24 points in each of the past two games). Not to deride Dalembert and Iquodala but those two haven’t given the Sixers what they should have.

The Bulls just have more depth at the moment and are rested enough to put the pressure on the 76ers right from the start. So, if the Bulls come out and concentrate on their defense, they will take over the game and finally get their long-awaited road victory. Medium stakes.
